• Make a list or visualize what you want from your remodeling project. Using magazines to collect ideas and gather thoughts can be very helpful.
• Interview and select your contractor and design professionals. Make sure that you check references and licensing.
• Finalize the price, terms and scope of the project with a written agreement.
• Remodeling projects do take time and depending on the nature of the remodel, can be disruptive to your daily life. You should be prepared for some ups and downs.
• Changes to the scope of the project should be documented as a written estimate or change order.
• A final walkthrough with your contractor will ensure that both parties are satisfied with the results and you have the opportunity to point out any final finishing touches or items not quite complete.
